Services and expertise
Our goal is to generate discoveries using fundamental geological knowledge supported by cost-efficient targeted fieldwork. Skapto offers a variety of both desktop and fieldwork consultancy services, and can supply well-trained contract geologists.
If you’re interested in the services we specifically offer for the diamond industry, please take a look at our brochure.
Starting from a comprehensive understanding of geological models and a wide variety of deposit types, we have performed target generation work on both project and regional scale, often following up with successful fieldwork. Our approach includes an exhaustive literature study with advanced cross-processing of any available data, including integration of this data in a GIS platform and predictive mapping. A complete metallogenic framework study for a given area can be of great value in order to know in advance what normally can or cannot be expected, and proceed targeting based on an increased scientific understanding.
Historic data can be a valuable source of information
Our geologists have extensive experience with boots on the ground mapping, often under difficult circumstances. We believe that a detailed analysis of structural features and alteration mapping is necessary to explore for and understand any type of deposit. Both structural features as alteration patterns are often found vectoring towards mineralisation.
The integration of modern exploration techniques, allows us to reduce feedback time and adjust the exploration program on the go, adapting it to the results as we move forward. One way we do this is by using portable XRF, benchtop XRD, spectrometers to immediately screen mineralogy and alteration in the field ahead of sending samples to the lab for more detailed analysis.
To support the field research we also make use of available remote sensing data to prepare regional to licence scale structural, lithological and or alteration studies when needed.

Some of our primary tools in the field
At Skapto we specialise in using geochemistry to detect and define mineral systems under cover. Our approach is focused on developing a thorough understanding of the geology first and foremost, using this knowledge to pick the most appropriate method as well as immediately focusing on the zones of highest deposit potential. This way we avoid unnecessary spending.
The application of advanced geochemical surveys also allows for exploration under cover. Through the detection of mobile elements in both fluids and sediments, blind deposits can be discovered under thick cover.
Specifically, we offer:

At Skapto our strategy is to optimise understanding of any project by integrating all available data obtained during fieldwork and desktop study in a comprehensive model. This can range from connecting structural measurements in the field with lineament studies and remote sensing to setting up 3D models connecting geological mapping with existing drill data.
En echelon veining in drill core
Skapto offers target validation for clients who want to get an objective evaluation of the potential of a project to determine whether further work is warranted or not. This can be done for a specific target, or a portfolio of different licences. The objective is to get qualified personnel on the ground as soon as possible to start mapping geology, potentially interesting structures and alteration, and spot any possible mineralisation. Simultaneously, rock and stream sediment samples are collected to verify any mineralisation via geochemical analysis.
For more advanced projects, which already have proven mineralisation or even historical mining activity we offer a methodology directed at defining the style and extent of the mineralisation thus enabling us to define future drill targets. Application of tailor made geochemical sampling campaigns plays an important role in this.
We also provide high level assessment of projects with existing exploration activity, offering audits and evaluations with independent reporting.

Due diligence of a large silver mine
Our geologists have experience with drilling campaigns, ranging from target selection to core logging and interpreting drilling results. By integrating all the data collected during mapping and sampling surveys, we attempt to increase the likelihood of hitting the target as much as possible, limiting the number of drill holes needed, and reducing the total cost.In addition logging and petrographical work is started as soon as possible to ensure an expeditious follow up and feedback for any changes in the initial drill program.

Skapto is experienced in setting up and managing entire exploration campaigns for either single targets or a set of projects. Planning, management and execution from the initial desktop study to the development stage. Our services include complete project management, data compilation, interpretation, the appropriate exploration techniques, as well as ongoing supervision and reporting. We also offer training for local geologists.
